Firefox plugin PicLens from Cooliris provides full screen immersive picture browsing of Flickr and other web sites that support Media RSS.

To use PicLens, a user clicks a small translucent icon that appears atop the image of interest once the plugin is installed. The PicLens slideshow interface appears and the user can move from one photo to the next or press play and enjoy the show. A user can intuitively browse images within search results, photo albums, and Media RSS enabled websites.

Support is currently provided for Flickr, Facebook, Friendster, Picasa Web Album and image search results from Google and Yahoo. Site owners can add support to any site with photos by including Media RSS support.

The best way to describe PicLens is that it’s a like the slideshow feature in Picasa or a similar photo viewing tool, but applied to web pages.


HOW TO USE PICLENS

1. Visit one of the PicLens enabled sites listed above, and then mouseover any image. A special PicLens icon will then appear on top of that image.

2. Click the PicLens icon that appears, and your browser will automatically transform into a full-screen 3D wall of images.

3. There you can scroll the wall by dragging the scroll bar or by simply dragging your mouse across the screen. You can also zoom by clicking an image or by using the scroll wheel on your mouse, if you have one.

4. Finally, you can go full-screen by double clicking the image or by clicking the toggle button on the bottom left corner of the PicLens window.

5. If you wish, you can jump to the corresponding webpage of the image by clicking the small arrow button located next to the website logo at the top left corner of the PicLens window.

Note: If you have the RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in for Firefox, you may need to disable it temporarily in order for PicLens to function properly.
